UWG "The
Sound That LIGHTS The South!" Marching Band
|
Daring
to be the best. . . that’s what the University of West
Georgia Marching Band is all about. The “Sound That
LIGHTS the South”®
doesn’t try to be like other bands or even as
good as their own previous years. It is always striving
to be the best. Each year the band starts with one goal
dead in its sights: to strive to make the current year
better than any previous – the best ever.
The
men and women of the band are from every walk of life
and all parts of the country. Yet, when the members don
their respective uniforms, they become “part of the
whole.” Not a gathering of individuals, but rather
precision parts of a larger finely tuned instrument. It
is that ideology that year after year sets the band far
ahead of its rivals both on and off the field.
On the field, the band is driven by an inner
force of pride and dedication to a commitment of
excellence. Maybe it’s the philosophy that great
performances are not an accident – but born from great
practices. The marching, music, and acrobatic routines
will be the best. It is these qualities that add up to
success!
Off the field, the band shows character as well.
Students are giving of their time for area causes,
academic organizations, and university events. Students
get involved in music, and in their university.
While
reflecting on the completed season, most members will
anxiously prepare for the next with great anticipation.
One can only wonder if the next year will be half as
productive. But then again, they’ve only watched OTHER
bands . . . |
